The Gabb’s Checkerspot (Chlosyne gabbii) is a winged gem found in California from Monterey south to northern Baja California, Mexico  It is seen at coastal dunes, along streams, in oak woodland, and chaparral.  Its host plants include sand aster (Corethrogyne filaginifolia) and telegraph weed (Heterotheca grandiflora).    Original: Acrylic painting by Fred M.
